We told you all about CMAS’s brand-new, specialized freediving program last year. We had the opportunity to speak with Evgeny Smirnoff, a CMAS Instructor Development Programs Specialist, this past weekend at Santa Maria, Cabo Verde to learn more about the latest developments.
Apnea Boom
Evgeny Smirnoff, the head of Apnea Boom, is an instructor of the CMAS system, Champion of Moscow in apnea for 2018-2020. He has performed static breath-hold for more than 6 minutes and 49 seconds, and covered distances of 128 meters in dynamic apnea, 181 meters in apnea with fins, and 204 meters in dynamic apnea with a monofin. Additionally, he has reached a depth of 52 meters in constant weight diving.
CMAS freediver has been working to continue its goal of continuous improvement for the past year by creating and improving its online course materials and program. In order to guarantee that every member of their teaching team is knowledgeable with the tried-and-true teaching methods that have made CMAS such a successful organization, they have also modified their requirements for instructor training.
The fact that their Touch eLearning resources are now available in twelve languages, with a thirteenth on the horizon, is a final noteworthy milestone. The new method eliminates the requirement for instructors to forecast the languages in which they will need to provide training materials and make the necessary purchases. They just purchase a code for Touch eLearning, and the student chooses when they register.
According to international standards, freediving is becoming more and more popular, which leads to an increase in divers, training, instructors, and freedive-specific trip opportunities. It’s wonderful news that accessibility has increased because everyone benefits from improved performance!
Check out CMAS Freediver, take a deep breath, and dive in whether you’re interested in learning more about freediving, switching from scuba to this sport, or just honing your already amazing talents!
